- 60+ days worked in costume in motion picture
- 1+ years of employment in the costume department with a professional motion picture or theatrical production company
- 1+ years of employment in professional sewing and/or pattern making
- 1+ years of experience in costume in commercials, documentaries, industrial, or educational films
- 2+ years apprenticeship in costuming, clothing, or a related industry
- 2+ years of post-secondary education in a costume-related field in a theatre arts or film school recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education or the equivalent in another province, state, or country
- Knowledge of alterations and garment construction
- Knowledge of fabric content and garment care
- Knowledge of period costume
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
- Volunteer work experience in the costume department (e.g., Canadian Film Centre, indie work, student films, etc.)
- Training familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Standard First Aid + CPR + AED
- CSA Green triangle patch safety boots

- Bag or bin to hold kit items
- Breakdown powders + colour sticks (Shmere, Ben Nye)
- Cloth or twill tape, black + white
- Digital camera
- Disposable gloves
- Double sided toupee tape (Topstick, Super Stick)
- Elastics, various sizes
- Emery board or nail file
- Highlighter
- Lint brush, lint roller, or whisk brush
- Manila tags
- Multi-tool with pliers (Leatherman, Swiss Army, Gerber, SOG)
- Needles for hand sewing, various sizes
- Pencils + pens
- Safety pins in silver + gold, assorted sizes
- Sandpaper or sanding block
- Seam ripper
- Sewing scissors with sharp tip, large + small
- Sewing tape measure
- Sharpie markers in black, fine + extra fine
- Shoe sponge (silicone impregnated)
- Small hairdryer
- Small notepad
- Small selection of notions (hooks and eyes, buttons, Velcro, etc.)
- Small spools of thread in white, black, grey, beige
