We are saddened to inform the membership of the passing of John MacKenzie (Construction) on February 22, 2025.

Below is a message John’s family wanted to share:

John joined IATSE 873 after years of working in dance theatre and film related projects. He advanced through the industry until he was coordinating some of the largest builds in Toronto's history. 

John was a loyal friend and leader.  His dedication to his team and the membership was evident in his efforts to improve working conditions in our industry. He was able to oversee the construction of monumental builds while simultaneously raising the bar and prioritizing health and safety for Local 873.

His hard work and leadership, along with the support of his team, brought order to a chaotic industry, and we are all better for it. 

John left us with a legacy of trying to make things better for all of us.
